"Dealing with myself"

Author: Judith Roth

Human potential is limitless. Our life should and must be stimulating and enjoyable. If it has become boring or exhausting, we are not dealing with ourselves in the best way. In preparation for this newsletter, I searched the internet for definitions and came across the following answer to the question "What does dealing with myself actually mean?”:

“Dealing with myself as a saying just means you are handling your business. Taking care of your shit. Whether it be fixing your attitude, mindset, life choices, a living situation, etc. It varies from person to person, but to me that's what it means. For me dealing with myself was taking myself to therapy and addressing my own issues to get better as both a man and a person. Thus far I have done a wonderful job, but I know there is more to go in terms of improvement and being where I want to be. So overall that's what it means my friend, taking care of your shit and your business. I hope that you deal with yours if you choose to. We are all flawed in some ways, but we all have to make an effort to deal with the flaws we can fix and push forward to make life worth living.”

In life we usually concentrate more on dealing with others, but it is also very important to deal with ourselves. You will find your self-worth by dealing with yourself. You will discover potentially a new “you”. This can mean different things to each person. But, why do we find it sometimes so hard “to deal with ourselves”? Because it is hard to deal with our bad sides. Not everyone accepts his bad side, but that is a must when people want to grow up and move on. Therefore, dealing with yourself is an important and difficult one.

There are some things that you can do to deal with yourself. First and foremost, to deal with yourself, accept yourself for who you are. You accept your best friends with all their flaws and faults - because you know what they’re going through in life. So why are you not as forgiving of yourself?

In addition to that it is very important to study ourselves carefully. The person we are each day - we might call the ego-personality - is born, lives and dies and there is a lot about ourselves that we do not know. We have to start learning about ourselves - as they say, the good, the bad and the ugly. The more we also know about our weaknesses through analysing our patterns and habits, the more we see the truth about ourselves. This self-knowledge is really important in order to turn your weaknesses into strengths. Don’t be scared to know the truth. Yes, it is much easier to live in a fairytale land where we are always right, so we never have to fix or solve our mistakes or keep our word, but it is much better to face the truth.

Another tip is to increase your curiosity! If you’re not curious it means you already know everything there is to know on the subject and if you already know then you’ve got a fixed opinion and you are not open to learning. Curiosity says: “I don’t really know, I want to learn more”.

So whether it’s learning a language or studying any topic that fascinates you, your mind will be kept agile. In order to make great decisions in life, we need a comprehensive and objective basis and we will only get that, if we are open to understanding all aspects. If we think we already know what people are going to say and do, we have already made up our mind. Curiosity encourages accurate thinking and kills mindless assumptions!

Speaking about “mindset” there is another important way to deal better with ourselves: Become an optimistic pessimist - so find a positive and optimistic approach towards life!

We need to have the mindset of: I’ll be ready at any moment to totally change my opinion if I’m proven wrong. It’s this mixture of real confidence with humility that is the key to remaining positive. What can we do? We have to deal with the information we have, until proven wrong and then - if proven wrong - without a moment's thought, change. We cut our losses and move forward. In doing so, we eliminate the fear of being wrong. :-)

And there is another tip that is closely related: Try not to beat yourself up! It’s the feeling stupid when we make mistakes that is like friendly-fire. We simply have to get it into our heads that the mistake itself is insignificant in the bigger scheme of things. Sure, correct it, pay for the damage, take it on the chin like a mature adult but the point is, don’t feel down and depressed. It's the “beating yourself up” at the repeated mistakes we make that ruins our positivity and progress.

Don’t lose faith in your own ability to develop as a person. When you give-up hope in yourself then even the smallest mistake will depress you. Learn to laugh at yourself when you make a mistake. Whatever it is, thank goodness you caught it. Now at least you have the chance to never repeat it again. Without stress, justification and certainly no beating ourselves up, we should always be there for ourselves, whether we are successful or completely overwhelmed in a situation.

Make your self confident that you can achieve anything you want. You just need to get on the “right” path to achieve everything. Make yourself satisfied and happy with all the results you will get in your life. Prepare yourself to handle any unexpected situation with patience. Never let your past control your present to ruin your future!

And last but not least: Don’t be too harsh on yourself!

If you want to delve deeper into that subject I am offering a Virtual Classroom Training session on that. Take a look at the details below! I would love to see you at one of those sessions.

Virtual Classroom Training "Dealing with myself"

We delve into the most complex subject - and that is you! How to deal with yourself? You will probably know yourself the best however we are pretty certain that there are areas you have never noticed or recognized before. Dealing with ourselves is self-management and self-awareness. It also entails the ability to manage relationships with other people. It´s also called the "Emotional competence". Emotional competence enables you to master conflicts constructively and to get along with yourself and other people.

Because those who are in control of themselves, can master every challenge. Through in-depth self-knowledge, you can increasingly self-reflect and be more authentic and relaxed with yourself and others. It helps you to respond with serenity and openness to the demands of life and to create your own path in life. Life should and must be stimulating and enjoyable. If it has become boring or exhausting, you are not dealing with yourselves in the best way. Living a true life means following the path of integrity with our internal compass. However, this needs some honesty. You need to be willing to take a look at yourself and see what’s missing, and then fill in the gaps. In that virtual classroom you will reflect on your internal compass and work out what your strongest qualities are. When you feel you are aware of your strongest qualities you can then declare who you are and see what is missing to become what you want to be.
